That Proverbs 31 woman really has it all. She’s a devoted wife and mother, a skilled businesswoman, a seamstress, a gardener, a wise teacher, a housekeeper and so much more. It can be quite intimidating for a young woman to know that is the model of what a Godly woman should be.

I’ve been blessed to have so many women around me who embody those qualities. Since I was a child I had my mother and my grandmother, my mom’s best friend, my pastor and all the women I went to church with teaching me and modeling for me what it means to serve God and live holy for Him. Since I’ve gotten married, I have a wonderful mother-in-law who teaches me about Godly womanhood as well. Our conversations often come back to Proverbs 31.

What I’ve learned from these women is that none of us can reach the goals and standards set for us until we completely yield ourselves to God. The key to success as a Christian and a wife and mother is to pray for Him to help us live as He desires.

For me, it’s been difficult and sometimes overwhelming to live up to that Proverbs 31 example. I fall into that familiar trap that entangles many women. I see a woman who seems to have it all together and I can’t help comparing myself to her. I can only see my shortcomings, but God sees what I will be. I thank God that he looks at the potential in us instead of constantly criticizing us the way we do ourselves.

I must challenge myself to speak positive things over my own life and to trust God to help me be the wife and, someday, the mother He wants me to be. Women are often stressed, but God says cast your cares on me. Isn’t it good to know we don’t have to do it alone?
